What is airsoft gun and what are the type of airsoft

Airsoft is a sport where players engage in simulated gun combat, (not too dissimilar to paintball), with high powered BB weapons.

Airsoft Basics

Whilst many players don’t like comparing airsoft to paintball, it’s the closest thing that can be compared.

Airsoft, is similar to paintball, in that teams of people group together into organised teams at a dedicated and insured field, and shoot small projectiles at each other for fun and sport.

Where airsoft differs from paintball is that airsoft is much more focussed towards military simulation. Where paintball markers don’t always look like “real” guns, airsoft RIFs (Realistic Imitation Firearms) are 99% of the time, modelled after genuine firearms and are almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

The players will also, for the most part, be more dedicated to dressing in more realistic military gear, including vests and sometimes helmets, in order to look more “realistic”.

 The types of airsoft gun

Airsoft Electric Guns (AEGS)

Airsoft electric guns, also known as AEGs, are the most common type of airsoft rifle. Airsoft electric guns are battery powered and can usually be fired in semi-automatic or full auto mode. In most cases, AEGs will come with a rechargeable battery and a battery charger. A decent airsoft rifle will usually fire 0.20g BB pellets at a velocity of between 300 and 400 FPS, meaning they really pack a punch. when you purchase electric airsoft rifles,  a full metal gearbox is better, as these are much more durable than their plastic counterparts.

Gas powered airsoft guns use compressed gas to propel the BB pellet down the barrel of the gun and at your opponent. Green gas comes in larger bottles and is filled right into the magazine of your air soft gun while CO2 comes in smaller, 12-gram cartridges that are attached and discharged individually.

                   

The advantage of CO2 cartridges and green gas is that they are inexpensive, portable and long-lasting, meaning your gas powered guns will keep you in the fight and on your way to an airsoft win.

Gas powered airsoft pistols tend to be the most popular gun in this category, but there are plenty of gas powered airsoft rifles to choose from as well, all the way up to airsoft sniper rifles. The user just pulls back the slide (for spring airsoft pistols) or manipulates a bolt action (for spring airsoft rifles) before each shot. Spring-powered guns are popular because they are relatively inexpensive and do not require batteries or gas to operate. Ultimately, spring powered airsoft guns are the most cost effective option for common airsoft beginners.
